'Poljot' is one of the brands from the First Moscow Watch Factory (1st MWF) in Russia. Founded in 1930 by Stalin, the factory produced watches and clocks for the Russian Army and Airforce.
The watch that Yuri Gagarin (a Shturmanskie) was wearing on the first orbit in space ever and the one Aleksej Leonov was wearing (a Strela chronograph) on the very first spacewalk both came from the 1st MWF.
After these successes, the brand name 'Poljot', which means 'Flight' was used for the watches that the 1st MWF produced.
The 'Molnija' clock and watch factory was opened in 1947 and mainly produced watches, pocket watches and clocks for the Russian Department of Defense. The pocket watches are very well known and since production is ceased in 2007, this a unique opportunity to buy one!
