Bulova was founded as the J. Bulova Company by the Bohemian immigrant Joseph Bulova (1851-1936) in 1875.
Bulova made a lot of innovations in watchmaking, including the Accutron watch in 1960, which used resonating tuning forks at 360 Hertz as a means of regulating the time keeping function. The Accutron is considered to be the first electronic watch. It was used in all instrument panel clocks in the spacecrafts during the 1960's.
In 2008 the Bulova Watch Company (as it is called from 1923) was taken over by the Japanese watchmaker company Citizen, to form together the world largest watchmaking company.
